Genre Mini-Libraries

We are requesting funding to curate sets of “genre mini-libraries” for 5th and 6th grade classrooms. These sets would be comprised of 50-100 texts chosen for specific reading units, to be housed in the classroom during the time the units are taught, and then in the Learning Center where the titles could be checked out by other students. For example, during the Classics reading unit in 6th grade, Ms. Gray would pull all of the books on the list to be housed in Mrs. Kahlenberg’s room for the duration of the unit. Students would then use this set of books to choose an independent reading book. Students are encouraged to read several titles in the course of a unit.
