DISTRICT 29 PTO MONTHLY MATTERS
PRESIDENT’S WELCOME
Monday, May 5, 2025
It’s May and we are finally getting some of that much needed sunshine around here! We have just about a month of school left and we are packing a whole lot of fun before summer comes.
Thank you to everyone who helped organize, staff tables and came out to International Night! It was so great to see this event be such a success and we can’t wait to hold it for many more years to come.
We are starting off this month with Teacher Appreciation week and while we appreciate our teachers all year round, we like to give them a little extra love this time of year so check out the Teacher Appreciation team’s shout out below to see how you and your student can get involved.
Quickly following Teacher Appreciation week, we have the SRS book fair and finally we will cap off the year with our annual Family Fun Fair.
Our next meeting will be Monday, May 12th at 9AM. This is one of the most important meetings of the year as we will be voting on both the 2025-2026 PTO budget as well as the 2025-2026 PTO slate and will require a quorum of PTO members in order to pass them both. Please do your best to attend this meeting so we can set up for a successful 2025-2026 year!

Pro tip: If you don’t want to miss any future PTO or D29 event please be sure to subscribe to the district calendar here.

STAY INFORMED
Teacher Appreciation Week:
As our children complete another year around the D29 School Sun, please join us in celebrating our teachers during Teacher Appreciation week from May 5-9th!
We encourage you to check out all of our Teacher’s Favorite Things and find ways to celebrate them. A few easy ideas for your student could be:
• Wear something with your teacher’s favorite color or sports team
• Make a card for your teacher and tell them why they’re so awesome
• Bring in your teacher’s favorite candy or snack
• Or anything else!
Join us in celebrating our teacher community and their work in helping our children shine!
New Family Mentor Request!
D29 PTO is looking for "Mentor Families" to connect with new families in our district for the 2025-2026 school year. This is a great way to get involved with our school district community and is always a lot of fun. Please fill out this form if you would like to volunteer!
TIME TO ORDER SCHOOL SUPPLIES
Parents, it's time to check one thing off your list! The PTO has arranged convenient and cost-efficient school supply ordering through 1st Day School Supplies! Order your kit for the 2025-2026 school year by July 1, and it will be directly delivered to your child's classroom at the start of next school year. PLUS, a small portion of every sale supports the PTO.

Sunset Ridge Book Fair
The D29 PTO Sunset Ridge Book Fair is around the corner! Anderson’s is our vendor again this year and we will have a great selection of books available. It’s the perfect time to stock up for summer reading. ☀️📚
Students will shop with their advisories during the school day on May 20 and 21. Please send your child with cash, credit/debit card, or Apple/Google Pay.
The fair will also be open on Tuesday, May 20 until 7pm, so stop by after school. Or if your child is in the Jr. High Concert, you can shop before the performance begins!
Finally, we are looking for parent volunteers to help us staff the fair during school hours. Sign up here.
Questions? Please reach out to Sarah Cohn (snewberger@gmail.com).
Family Fun Fair – Volunteers Needed!
Join us for the Family Fun Fair on Wednesday, June 4th, 2025, from 3:30-6:30PM at Clarkson Park. It’s going to be a fantastic afternoon of fun, and we need your help to make it a success.
We’re looking for volunteers to sign up for 30-minute shifts during the event. If you’re available, we’d greatly appreciate your support! Sign up here.
COMMUNITY NEWS
A Message from the Northfield Park District
Please visit the Northfield Park District website for information and registration for the upcoming 2025 Summer Camp which starts on June 9th. The Market and Music postcards and schedule have been mailed out, for more information click here.
As you may have heard, the Park District referendum that was on the April 1st ballot did not pass by a slim margin of 2.8%. This referendum asked for a property tax increase to provide funding for the sustained growth of our parks, facilities, and programs. Without the additional tax revenue, there is an increased need for fundraising to execute the projects derived from our 2023 Comprehensive Master Plan. The Northfield Parks Foundation has wonderful information on their website regarding the fundraising goals for these projects, including the exciting plans for the new pocket park on Happ Road in the Tower Road right-of-way. Northfield residents have proven time and again that they will support their parks. If you’re passionate about parks, now is the time to get involved and help us bring these projects to life!
D29 families, the PTO has partnered the Northfield Park District and EverSmiles Orthodontics to provide one free mouth guard for all students 1st-8th grade. Please check out the flyer and click on the link here to fill in your information and EverSmiles will be in touch!

This year we are working with 40 different schools across the region to provide teacher and professional learning, parent education, and family experiences in the Let’s Play! series. Here is a link to the 2024-2025 Member School Program Guide.

Go Green Northfield Creative Exchange Swap Event ♻️
Spring is a great time to clean out those closets, garages, and basements. But what to do with all the usable stuff you don't want anymore? Bring it to Go Green Northfield's first annual swap event! Check out our list of gently used items we will be accepting and bring them to the Willow Park pavilion on May 18th, 10am-1pm. Got extra soccer cleats? Bring 'em! Need a pair of soccer cleats? Take 'em! All leftover items will be donated to our friends at Chicago Creative Reuse Exchange. Let's work together to reduce waste, encourage reuse, and promote sustainable consumption. Thank you to the Northfield Park District for hosting this event!
